The Panchkula police have arrested two persons accused of cheating and extorting Rs 2.5 lakh on pretext of a job. The complaint was filed by Varsha, a resident of Industrial Phase 2, Panchkula.
Varsha's father operates a tea shop where two men frequently visited and offered to secure a job for her in Panchkula. They took Rs 2.5 lakh from her family but failed to provide the job. When Varsha’s family demanded the money back, the accused refused and even began threatening them.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 406, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused. Assistant Sub-Inspector Jagpal Singh arrested one Omprakash on January 26 from Mouli Jangra in Chandigarh. Omprakash was taken on a two-day police remand. On the information provided by Omprakash, the second accused, Suresh Yadav, was arrested on Monday from Sector 5, Panchkula. Suresh has also been taken on a two-day police remand. The police have recovered Rs 20,000 from Omprakash, and the remaining amount is expected to be recovered from Suresh during his remand.
