2 held with banned pills, one with smuggled liquor

The police arrested two drug peddlers and a liquor smuggler in separate incidents.

DSP (D) Nikhil Garg said the Badali Ala Singh police, in a joint operation with the Excise Department, seized 27 boxes of country liquor being smuggled from Chandigarh in a car and arrested its driver, identified as Satish Kumar, a resident of Badali Ala Singh.

The DSP said a naka was set up on the Hansali main road near Khera village by a joint team of the police and Excise Department. A car (PB 70 C 2661) approaching the naka from the Badali side took a U-turn, raising a suspicion. The police chased down the vehicle and during its search, smuggled liquor was recovered from it. A case was registered against the car driver,

In another incident, the police recovered 1,000 intoxicant pills from a car stopped by the Sirhind police at a naka near Tarkhan Majra T-point. Dilbagh Singh, a resident of Sirhind, who was driving the car, was arrested.

The DSP said similarly, the Chunni police had set up a naka near the SYL canal. During checking of a vehicle, the police recovered 600 pills used as drugs from its dashboard. The vehicle occupant, identified as Hasanpreet Singh, a resident of Chunni, was arrested and a case was registered under the NDPS Act.
