Chandigarh: Two youths have been arrested by the local police for throwing stones at a PCR vehicle. According to the police, the complainant, ASI Pritam, posted in the PCR wing, reported that Shubham (26) and Ritik (22), both residents of Ram Darbar, threw stones at a PCR vehicle at Ram Darbar, Phase II, due to which the front windscreen of the vehicle got damaged. Both suspects were nabbed and a case under Sections 353, 427 and 34 of the IPC was registered at the Sector 31 police station. TNS

Women duped of jewellery, cash

Chandigarh: Three tricksters befooled three women and took away jewellery and cash from them. Complainant Meena, a resident of Mauli Jagran, stated that she along with her two relatives had gone for a walk on October 10. She said on reaching near Vikas Nagar petrol pump, three boys tricked them and took away a pair of gold earring, gold lockets and Rs450 cash from them. A case of cheating has been registered at the Mauli Jagran police station and investigation has been initiated, said the police. TNS

Netball meet from Oct 19

Chandigarh: The Netball Sports Promotion Association, Chandigarh, will organise the Chandigarh Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior State Championship at Ishwar Singh Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, from October 19 to 21. Players born on or after April 4, 2006 will be eligible to take part in the sub-junior event and those born on or after April 1, 2003 will be eligible to play in the junior event. There will be no age bar for senior category in this championship. TNS

Football trials on Oct 14, 15

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Football Association will organise trials to select a local probable squad to prepare for the upcoming Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy (North Zone), which will start from November 21. The trials will be held at the Sector 46 Sports Complex on October 14 and 15 from 10 am to 4 pm. Players born on or after January 1, 2002 will be eligible to take part in the trial. Players registered with the Chandigarh Football Association could participate in the trials, said an official. All players appearing for the trials have to be fully vaccinated and have to submit their certificate. TNS

LWCC beat NCC, lift cricket title

Chandigarh: Livewire Coaching Centre (LWCC) defeated Namaste Chandigarh Complex (NCC), Dera Bassi, by 19 runs in the final match of ‘No Tension-Have fun’ Cricket Cup. Batting first, LWCC posted 118 runs with the help of Harvinder (69), Takshit Chopra (21) and Dr Luthra (17). Amit Gandhi claimed three wickets, while Rizul and Gulshan claimed two wickets each. Narendra and Kamal also bagged one wicket each. In reply, NCC could score 99 runs in 16.2 overs. Vicky Joshi (26), Kamal (17), Amit (16) and Gulshan (11) were the main contributors to the chase. Pankaj claimed three wickets, while Harvinder Nain and Shubham took two each for the bowling side. Luthra and Ankush also bagged one wicket each. TNS

Youth killed in hit-and-run

Mohali: A 20-year-old youth of Kurali died while two others were seriously injured when a car driver hit their motorcycle from behind on the Chandigarh-Kurali highway near Prabh Asra in Padiala village. The deceased has been identified as Narinder Kumar and the injured as Bunty and Vishal who have been admitted to the PGI. A case has been registered at the Kurali City police station. TNS

'Loan Utsav' concludes

Chandigarh: State Bank of India, Regional Office, accorded in principle approval to loans amounting to Rs25 crore during "Loan Utsav" at the circus ground, Sector 17, which concluded on Monday. Chief General Manager, Chandigarh circle, Anukool Bhatnagar shared that the event elicited huge interest from the public. TNS

'Run for Rights' organised

Chandigarh: More than 50 schools participated in "Run for Rights" organised by the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights to celebrate International Day of Girl Child. As many 300 girls participated in the event. The run started from the Sector 42 lake to the Sector 42 Sports Complex. The run was flagged off by Olympic shooter Anjum Moudgil. The participants were led by Mannat, Child Right Ambassador. TNS

Sharanjeet elected

Chandigarh: Sharanjeet Singh, president of the Budo Kai Do Mixed Martial Arts Federation of India, has been elected Asia president of the World Karate Confederation (WKC). The elections were held in Romania. Sharanjeet has been the president of the Budo Kai Do Mixed Martial Arts Federation of India for the past four years. TNS

Chandigarh: Former IAS officer and motivational speaker Vivek Atray has released a book, "Paanch Ke Sikkey Tatha Anya Kahaniyan", which was written by Shailja Kaushal. Shailja narrates the psychology of human emotions, be it the memories of childhood, the struggles of the LGBT community or the employment in the country. She is at present serving as the Information and Public Relation Officer with the Haryana Government. TNS
