Two persons sustained serious injuries in an LPG cylinder blast at a utensil shop in Lakhnaur village here today.

The victims, shop owner Mohammad Shakib and Ramu, a helper in a nearby eatery, were rushed to the Civil Hospital where the former’s condition is stated to be serious.

It is learnt that a small cylinder exploded around 2.30 pm when Shakib was allegedly pilfering gas from domestic cylinders into small commercial cylinders. Nearby objects too caught fire. The exact cause of the blast could not be ascertained yet, the police said.

Sohana SHO Bhagwant Singh visited the spot and seized a few commercial cylinders from the shop. The office of a gas agency is located close to the shop. “Two commercial cylinders, four domestic LPG cylinders and 12 small cylinders have been siesed. The statement of the victims could not be taken today. We are probing the matter,” he said. — TNS
