Two bike-borne masked miscreants on Saturday fired gunshots outside a diagnostic centre before giving an extortion threat, in Dera Bassi here, officials said.
The incident took place in Shakti Nagar locality at around 12:45 pm.
According to officials, one of the two assailants barged into the centre, handed over a slip with a foreign contact number to the female receptionist; identifying themselves as members of the Kaushal Chaudhary gang.

Before the receptionist could understand anything, the miscreant left the centre and fired two gunshots before fleeing with his accomplice, they said.
The visitors and the patients at the diagnostic centre were in a state of shock.
The incident took place close to the Dera Bassi police station. SHO Mandeep Singh reached the spot and further investigation was under way.
