2 prisoners released at jail Lok Adalat
Ajay Kumar Ghanghas, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Panchkula, organised a Jail Lok Adalat at the Central Jail as part of ongoing efforts to ensure timely justice and uphold prisoners’ legal rights.
During the Lok Adalat, two prisoners were released after they confessed to their offences. Officials said the initiative underscored the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanism in expediting justice and providing relief to eligible individuals within the justice system.
Ghanghas also conducted a comprehensive inspection of the jail premises. He interacted with both convicted inmates and undertrial prisoners to address their legal concerns.
He personally enquired from each inmate about the status of appeals in their cases. He emphasised on the importance of maintaining a systematic record and directed jail authorities to create a separate register for each convict, documenting whether they had filed appeals in the High Court or Supreme Court.
“This measure aims to streamline legal processes and ensure that no inmate’s case is neglected due to procedural lapses,” he added.
Ghanghas also visited the women’s wing in the jail and listened to their grievances and offered guidance and assistance.
Speaking about the importance of the Lok Adalat and jail visits, Ghanghas said these initiatives were critical to ensure that justice reaches even the most marginalised sections of society.
