Chandigarh: The police have arrested two youths for snatching cash and a mobile phone. Ram Avadh (45), a resident of Mauli Jagran, had reported that while he was returning home on February 17, two persons snatched his phone and Rs 5,000 cash. The police registered a case at the Mauli Jagran station. During investigation, two suspects, identified as Rahil Saini, alias Chela (22); and Robin Kumar (24), both residents of Daria, were arrested. The police recovered the stolen phone from their possession. TNS
GNPS subdue Sunrise Academy
Chandigarh: In the ongoing Saupin’s-32 (U-14) Cricket Championship, Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS) Academy defeated Sunrise Cricket Academy by four wickets. Batting first, the Sunrise Academy boys posted 183 runs in 34.4 overs with the help of Yash Kashyap (81), Prabhaimran Singh (36) and Shubhdeep (18). Yash Magvan claimed a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, for the bowling side. Anmoldeep Singh and Harshil Saini claimed two wickets each. In reply, the GNPS lads posted 184/6 in 38.2 overs. Shivansh Choudhary scored 96 off 115 balls, while Unnati Dahuja adeed 31 off 49 balls. Saksham also added 17 to the winning tally. Sports meet at St Xavier’s
Chandigarh: St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, organised annual sports meet for its primary wing and teachers. Additional Principals Gavin Bond and Chandan S Patwal along with Assistant Directors Naresh Handa and N Gandhi and Senior Vice Principal D Pant awarded winners. The event commenced with the ceremonial march past. Various track events including, flat race with pom poms and rings, collecting balls, obstacle race, pick the ball with cones, crab race and others were held on the occasion. TNS
UT’s Sanna wins silver in Patna
Chandigarh: Local weightlifter Sanna claimed silver medal in the 67th National School Games held at Patna. Sanna lifted a total weight of 122kg to win the silver medal in the girl’s U-17 category. She practices at the Sector 42 Sports Complex under UT Sports Department coach Karanveer Singh Buttar. TNS
Cricket Bash win by six wickets
Chandigarh: Cricket Bash Academy defeated Cricket with Nagesh Academy by six wickets, during the 2nd DP Azad Memorial Invitational Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Nagesh Academy scored 265/7 as opener Arsh Kabir scored unbeaten 155 off 109 balls. Anmol Brar claimed three wickets, while Gaurav took two for the bowling side. In reply, the Bash Academy team achieved the target in 40 overs as Manveer Singh (98 off 75 balls) and Harsh Kumar (88 off 93 balls) raised an unbeaten 182-run stand for the second wicket. Sourish Sanwal (34) was the other notable scorer. Kabir claimed 2/51 for the bowling side. Kabir won the best batter award, while Anmol Brar bagged the best bowler award. Athletes bring laurels to dist
Panchkula: Veteran athletes GS Saunkhla and Rakhi Sharma brought laurels to the district by winning medals in the 44th National Masters Athletics Championship held in Pune. Saunkhla won four gold medals. He won the top honour in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m (relay) and 4x400m (relay) events. He also won one silver medal in the triple jump event. Meanwhile, Rakhi bagged the gold medal in the 1,500m race. Earlier, she had won bronze medal in the 800m event during the Biennial Asia Masters Athletics Championship (AMAC) held in Philippines.
