202 detained for curfew violation

Chandigarh: A total of 202 persons were rounded up by the police on Friday for violating the curfew orders. The police said 65 vehicles were detained and 120 impounded in different parts of the city. The police also made 39 rounded-up people download the Aarogya Setu App. TNS

Mouse lands man in police station!

Chandigarh: A Sector 23 resident, Ajay Kumar, had not imagined that a mouse caught in a trap would land him in a police station. Ajay had gone to release the mouse near his house when a patrolling team rounded him up for curfew violation and took him to the Sector 17 police station. A police team constituted to keep a check on morning walkers was on patrolling duty when it saw the man holding a mouse trap near Mother Teresa Home in Sector 23. By that time, Ajay had released the mouse and was heading back home when the police caught him and took him to the police station. Ajay said he was about to take a bath when he noticed the mouse in the trap and thought of releasing it first. “I told the police that I had left the house just to release the mouse. However, they didn’t listen,” he said. Ajay was released after several hours. TNS

May Day observed at Rayat Bahra

Mohali: International Labour Day was celebrated at the Rayat Bahra University here today. To mark the occasion, a special programme was organised through video conferencing where tributes were paid to the martyrs of Chicago. Speaking on the occasion Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University, said May Day is a celebration of labourers and the working classes, promoted by the International Labour Movement. The university recognises the valuable contribution of labourers towards development, he said. Two held with 40-gm opium

Kharar: Kharar City police today arrested two suspects — Gurmeet Singh Ghoga village and Devinder Singh of Kharar — and recovered 40 gm of opium from their possession. Kharar City SHO Bhagwant Singh said a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them. TNS

250 boxes of whisky stolen

Kharar: Around 250 boxes of scotch whisky were stolen from the godown of Tinku Wines located on the Sanipur road near GT Road. The police have registered an FIR on the complaint of Ashok Kumar. He said thieves broke the locks of the godown and took away around 250 boxes of whisky. They even damaged an almirah and CCTV cameras installed there, he said. Prof Singla takes charge as PU DUI
