2,182 cases disposed of at National Lok Adalat in Chandigarh

In all, 2,182 cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat organised today at the District Court Complex, Sector 43, here by the State and District Legal Services Authorities, UT, Chandigarh.

Thirteen Benches headed by serving Judicial Officers were constituted for hearing cases, including criminal compoundable, Section 138 of NI Act, bank recovery, MACT, matrimonial and labour disputes, arbitration matters, civil, municipal matters and traffic challans, and disposed of with the consent of parties concerned.

In all, 9,596 traffic challans were also disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs 47,82,300 on violators at the Lok Adalat.

Besides, 169 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs 14,18,182 were disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS). Seven labour dispute cases involving an amount of Rs 6,90,338 were disposed of by the Labour Court. Forty-two cases were disposed of by the State and District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions, Chandigarh.

Surender Kumar, member secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, and Sunil Kumar, secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Chandigarh, appealed to people to resolve their disputes through Lok Adalats as it provides quick and economical justice to aggrieved parties.

Meanwhile, there was panic for a few moments during the Lok Adalat when honeybees attacked an advocate and another person, who had come to deposit challan. The injured were taken to a hospital by advocates. The advocates said a honeybee nest was located on trees on the court premises. Earlier too, honeybees attacked an advocate in the parking area. A huge crowd of people visited the Lok Adalat for depositing traffic challans.
