22 get nod to elect new Chandigarh Olympic Association

The Deputy Commissioner (DC)-appointed administrator to conduct the Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) elections, on the directions of a Punjab and Haryana High Court, has approved a total of 22 sports associations as valid voters.

The electoral officer for the purpose of holding the elections, DANICS-cadre officer Khushpreet Kaur has issued the list of 22 associations that will choose the new COA house on November 21.

The associations include Chandigarh Archery Association, Athletics Association, Badminton Association, Basketball Association, Amateur Boxing Association, Fencing Association, Football Association, Gymnastics Association, Horse Riders Society, Amateur Judo Association, Kabaddi Association, Kayaking & Canoeing Association, Netball Sports Promotion Association, Rifle Association, Rowing Association, Rugby Football Association, Table Tennis Association, Chandigarh Amateur Weightlifting Association, UT Wrestling Association, Wushu Association, Volleyball Association and Yachting Association.

As many as 34 sports bodies were in contention to get voting rights, but 12 were dropped from the list for allegedly not fulfilling the criteria.

Now, the 22 selected associations have nominated two representatives each for the purpose of voting.

The electoral roll was to be released on October 31, but was released today. Now, the format of nomination papers, as per the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), will be issued on November 8 and 9, nominations will be received on November 13.

The withdrawal of nomination will be allowed till November 15, followed by approval of the candidates list. The elections are slated for November 21.
