The house owner informed the police, after which a team reached the spot and began an investigation. No threat or ransom call had been received when the reports last came in.

Family members said they were living in a state of fear since yesterday night.

The DSP (City-1), Prithvi Singh Chahal, said, “Around 25 rounds were fired. No one is injured. The Kala Rana gang has claimed responsibility. We are questioning all members of the family and analysing the previous incidents in the area.”

Meanwhile, Mohali mayor and area councillor Amarjit Singh Sidhu visited the spot. He said, “They are a very decent family. It is unfortunate that such an incident has happened with them. Mohali has a population of around 25 lakh but there are hardly 900 police personnel deputed here. Some of them may be on leave, stuck in courts, while many are deployed as gunman. Punjab CM has four members in his family but 11 cops are guarding them. It is indeed a sad situation especially when the AAP leaders claim themselves to be Aam Aadmi.”
