In a crackdown on fugitives evading the law, Panchkula police have arrested 254 absconders between January and October this year. These individuals were wanted in various cases, including theft, drug trafficking and cheque bounce offences,

According to police data, this marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year, when 175 absconders were apprehended. Officials said the dedicated Proclaimed Offender (PO) Staff team had been instrumental in tracing and nabbing the fugitives.

Virender Nain, in charge of the PO team, stated that many among those arrested had ignored repeated police and court notices compelling their appearance. “The court had already declared them absconders. Some of them were facing multiple cases, while others jumped bail and fled,” he said.

Nain added that several accused frequently changed their locations or took shelter in other states to avoid arrest, making the process challenging. “In many such cases, we also took assistance from the Cyber Cell to trace them,” he noted.
