The The CIA-1 unit of the police has recovered 260 gram of heroin worth about Rs 2 crore and arrested three men in the case. The accused have been identified as Suraj, Chetan and Raj Kumar, all residents of Ambala Cantonment.
The police arrested Suraj and Chetan on July 30. The disclosures made by Suraj led to the arrest of Raj Kumar on August 1. A case was registered at the Parao police station.
Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria said, "Acting on a tip-off, the CIA-1 unit arrested Suraj and Chetan on the Ambala-Shahabad highway on July 30 with 260 gram heroin. Its market value is about Rs 2 crore. The accused were produced before a court on July 31 and the Judge sent Suraj to two-day police remand and Chetan to judicial custody. During the remand, Suraj disclosed the involvement of Raj Kumar and he was arrested on August 1. They were produced before a court today. The court sent both to judicial custody. Some more people will be arrested in connection with the recovery."
Raj Kumar is already facing 11 cases under various offences. Suraj and Chetan had brought drugs for him.
The SP said over the past one month, seven cases of commercial quantity have been registered in which over 3 kg opium, over 230 kg chura post, 260 gram heroin, 12,248 intoxicating capsules and 1,125 intoxicating tablets had been recovered. Four other cases were also registered under the NDPS Act during that period.
The police said the total recovery in 11 NDPS cases was over 233 kg, and the market value of the seized drugs was over Rs 3.40 crore.
Bhoria said, "There have been some good recoveries over the past one month and continuous efforts are being made to break the nexus of drug smugglers in the district. We also call upon people to share information about the drug smugglers so that immediate action can be taken against them."
