2,940 cases settled in National Lok Adalat at Sector 43 courts

A total of 2,940 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held at the District Courts Complex in Sector 43 here today.

Twenty-one Benches headed by judicial officers were constituted in the District Courts to take up criminal compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, bank recovery cases, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, arbitration matters, other civil cases, municipal matters and traffic challans.

In an MACT case, an amount of Rs 54.5 lakh was awarded as compensation to the claimants in a death case. Traffic challans were also disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs 37,20,260.

In addition to above, 4,982 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs 31,94,224 were disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (public utility services). Besides eight labour dispute cases involving an amount of Rs 12,95,089 were disposed of by the labour court, 308 by the Debt Recovery Tribunal-III and 62 by state and district consumer commissions.

Legal Services Authority member secretary Surender Kumar and District Legal Services Authority secretary Sunil Kumar thanked people for making the Lok Adalat a success. They appealed to people to get their disputes resolved through Lok Adalats as these provided quick and economical justice.
