The police have arrested three men for illegal sand mining at the Chandigarh Housing Board’s project site near the IT Park.
A team from the IT Park police station nabbed accused Aalam of Ambwala, Panchkula; Jasveer of Alipur, Panchkula; and Rahul Kumar of Majari village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
On Friday, Navneet Sharma, SDO of subdivision IV, CHB, reported fresh excavation and removal of soil from the IT Habitat project site.
Acting on the complaint, the police raided the spot. They impounded two trucks and a earth-moving machine being used in the unauthorised mining activity.
The accused, all drivers by profession, have no previous criminal record, the police said.
