A local court has sentenced Umesh Kumar, a resident of Dhanas, to undergo seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a five-year-old robbery case.
The court has also sentenced Bikas Polley of Nayagaon in Mohali and Kamlesh, a resident of Dhanas, to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment after holding them guilty in the case.
A case under Sections 452, 397, 34, 411 of the IPC was registered on October 17, 2020, on the complaint of Samrat Thander. The complainant said he and his friend Ashish Kumar make gold ornaments in their house in Sector 23.
On October 17, 2020, at about 12.30 pm, Ashish left for Himachal Pradesh to deliver a ring. At about 2.45 pm, two persons came to the house. One of them allegedly took out a knife and the other person picked up gold ornaments and Samrat’s purse containing some documents and cash.
They left after bolting the room from outside. Samrat called the police helpline 100. During investigation, accused Bikas Polley was arrested after he was identified by the complainant. Later, Umesh and Kamlesh were also arrested and a motorcycle used in the crime was recovered.
Six pieces of unpolished gold in the shape of ‘laddoo’ were recovered from the bushes near drainage channel on the Sector 23-24 light point.
After hearing of the arguments, the court held all accused guilty. The court said only Umesh was held guilty for the offences under Sections 397, 411, 452 of IPC. Bikash Polley and Kamlesh were held liable to be convicted under Sections 392 read with 34 IPC and 411 of IPC.
