Mohali, April 14
The Zirakpur police have nabbed three persons who extorted money posing as members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. They have been identified as Balwinder Singh and Naresh Kumar, both residents of Daria, and Manish, alias Sonu, a resident of Sector 28-C, Chandigarh.
The police have recovered a car used in the crime by the suspects.
Barma Singh, in charge of the Baltana police post, said on March 31, the suspects went to the office of Sanjay Badwar’s friend Anil Pandey in Baltana and gave a sealed envelope to the receptionist. They also asked the receptionist to tell the owners to keep Rs. 15 lakh ready. Sanjay and his friend said he envelope contained a threat letter which says the sender was Tikra Gujjar, who was a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The letter read the gang had got a contract to kill Sanjay Badwar.
Sanjay Badwar, a resident of Harmilap Nagar, Baltana, had lodged a complaint with the police. He said on March 17, unidentified persons opened fire at his house during the night.
Meanwhile, the police found that the letter was handed over to the receptionist by Balwinder, Naresh and Manish. Barma Singh said during interrogation, it was revealed that Balwinder and Naresh had borrowed Rs. 6.25 lakh from Anil Pandey. With the intention of not returning the amount, both suspects, in connivance with Manish, tried to extort Rs. 15 lakh. Further investigation in the case was on.
