3 lives snuffed out in Panchkula accidents

Three persons were killed and one was injured in two accidents in the district late last night.

In the first accident, two persons were killed and another was injured when the motorcycle they were riding hit a truck from behind as the truck driver suddenly applied brakes after turning towards the road separating Sector 12A and 14. The injured were taken to the Sector 6 Civil Hospital where the doctors declared two of them dead on arrival.

The deceased, aged between 30 and 32 years, have been identified as Rajinder Gupta and Vipul Thakur, both residents of Maheshpur village in Sector 21. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. The injured, identified as Harsh, was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

An eyewitness, Deepak, a resident of Kundi village in Sector 20, said he worked at an eatery in Mohali and was returning from work. While he was on the Amartex Chowk-Sector 20 road around 1:30 pm on his motorcycle, he saw the three youths on a bike just ahead him. The rashly driven truck, coming from the Zirakpur side, suddenly applied brakes after turning towards the Sector 12A-14 road. There was no traffic on the road but the driver still applied the brakes suddenly. The rider of the bike, with two pillion riders, collided with the vehicle.

People gathered at the spot and informed the police, who reached the spot soon. The truck driver fled the spot.

A case has been registered at the Sector 14 police station.

Mukesh, an acquaintance of Vipul, said the three ran their own business. Both deceased were married.

In the second accident, a 35-year-old man was killed when his two-wheeler was hit by a rashly driven car on the Panchkula-Yamunanagar National Highway last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Kot.

In a complaint lodged with the police, Rahul Sharma, a resident Indira Colony, Mani Majra, said Ajay was his brother-in-law and he worked as a pharmacist at Shakti Bhawan, Sector 6, Panchkula, for the past six years. Ajay was returning home around 5.30 pm yesterday when the rashly driven car hit his two-wheeler. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police have registered a case.

22-year-old biker killed at Dera Bassi

A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck on the Barwala road around 10 pm last night. The deceased, identified as Brij Mohan, a native of UP, was residing at Bhagwanpur village and worked at a welding shop in Zirakpur. Deceased’s friend Durgesh said he, along with Brij, was going to Bhagwanpur village when the accident happened due to a bad condition of the road. The truck driver sped away after the mihsap. TNS
