3 months on, Kharar triple murder co-suspect held
Mohali, January 11
More than three months after the sensational triple murder of a Kharar couple and their two-year-old son on October 10, the police arrested the co-accused in the case.
The suspect, Ram Saroop of Dhanauri village, Morinda, was nabbed in Telangana. The prime suspect in the case, Lakhvir Singh, was arrested a day after the crime.
The prime suspect had brutally murdered his elder brother Satbir Singh and sister-in-law Amandeep Kaur (33), took their bodies in a car and dumped them into Bhakra Canal near Ropar. The suspects had also taken the couple’s two-year-old son along with them in the car and later flung him in the canal as well.
Police teams were on Ram Saroop’s trail since the day of the crime and tracking him in HP, Punjab and Rajasthan. He was finally nabbed in Telangana.
“Immediately after committing the murder in cold blood, he had fled to Amritsar and kept taking shelter in religious places. He was ultimately traced in Nanded, Maharashtra. Police teams were after him and finally managed to catch him in Telangana,” said Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu. The police also recovered the white car used in the crime.
During Ram Saroop’s preliminary questioning, it has come to light that the duo had not thrown the child, Anhad Singh, 2, in the canal when they went there for the first time to dump the bodies. They had returned to the canal later and threw the infant in the canal, cops said.
A case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sadar Kharar police station on October 12.
The suspect was produced in a court today, which sent him to police remand till January 16.
