With the surfacing of three more Covid cases in the district today, the total number of positive cases reported from the district has gone up to 10. One of them, a 65-year-old man from Nayagaon, has died of the disease.

All 13 contacts of deceased test -ve

  • All 13 samples of close contacts of the 65-year-old Nayagaon resident, who died of Covid on Tuesday, had been found negative, said the Civil Surgeon, Dr Manjit Singh.

Among the new cases, a woman (74) and her granddaughter (10), residents of Phase IX, had come in contact with the NRI couple, who tested positive for Covid on March 30.

The third new case is a 55-year-old resident of Jagatpura village, who was in contact with the 22-year-old man of Sector 30, who had returned from Dubai and tested positive for Covid on March 27.

The surfacing of a Covid-19 case at Jagatpura village has put the health authorities on their toes as a large number of workers, including migrant labourers, from the village come to Chandigarh and Mohali for work. Even maids working in houses in adjoining Sector 48 and 49 come from Jagatpura village.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Manjit Singh, said all three positive cases had come in contact with Chandigarh cases. He said the three had been admitted to an isolation ward at Gyan Sagar Hospital in Banur and were stable.

He said they had also collected samples for testing from the area.

A Nayagaon resident, Om Prakash (65), who was found Covid positive and was undergoing treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, died on Tuesday.

He was the first patient in the district and the tricity to die of Covid-19.
