3 youths held for Mohali carjackings

The police have arrested three youths for their alleged involvement in incidents of carjacking in the district. Four cars, three pistols and 24 live rounds have been recovered from them.

The suspects, identified as Fazilka residents Sukhpal Singh, alias Palu, 23, Pritpal Singh, 20, and Waryam Singh, 24, were booked under Section 379-B of the IPC and the Arms Act.

SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said, “We have started a search to nab their accomplice Arvind Sodhi of Jalalabad. The investigation in the case is on. The accused are being interrogated and there is a possibility of more revelations.”

Sodhi is a proclaimed offender with six FIRs registered against him. The district had reported incidents of carjacking on November 24, 25 and December 18.

The police said various teams of the CIA were formed to trace the carjackers with the help of scientific and technical methods and human sources.

SP (Investigation) Amandeep Singh Brar said, “The suspects were nabbed at Fazilka on December 21. There are three FIRs against Sukhpal and two against Pritpal. The suspects were produced in a court, which remanded them in police custody for four days.” When the police tried to nab them, one of the suspects pointed a pistol at the cops. A minor scuffle took place before the trio was caught.

DSP Gursher Singh (Detective) said, “The gang used to come from Fazilka at night, looted cars at gunpoint and escaped. They sold one of the looted cars. A .32 bore pistol and a car were used in the crime.”

The suspects used to change the number plate with a fake number immediately after the incident.One of the suspects has a murder case registered against him.
