Chandigarh, July 17
A plantation drive was held at the Chandimandir Military Station as part of the week-long initiative by the Western Command. About 30,000 saplings of various varieties were planted.
The plantation drive involved close coordination with the Forest Department of Haryana. The saplings that were planted included varieties of timber, ornamental, fruit-bearing, flower-bearing and medicinal trees.
Lt Gen RP Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, and VS Tanwar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Haryana, were present at the event.
The Army Commander spoke about the Indian Army’s efforts to supplement India’s commitment to the world on reducing carbon footprint and making the eco system healthy for future generations.
