35 challans issued for encroachments in Chandigarh's Sector 22

The Municipal Corporation (MC) today carried out an intensive anti-encroachment drive across key locations of Sector 22, including Shastri Market, Kiran Cinema area, the vendor zone and the surrounding stretches in the sector.

During the drive, 35 challans were issued to violators found flouting civic norms and occupying public spaces illegally. Encroachments near the Sector-22 dispensary were also effectively removed as part of the coordinated action.

The anti-encroachment drive was conducted under the direct supervision of Municipal Joint Commissioner Himanshu Gupta, who was accompanied by the civic body’s enforcement inspectors and field staff.

The team undertook a thorough inspection of the market areas, footpaths and vending zones, removing unauthorised structures and items obstructing public movement.

Goods displayed beyond permissible limits, illegal extensions and unauthorized setups were cleared to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and restore public convenience.

The Joint Commissioner emphasised that such drives will continue regularly to maintain discipline and uphold the city’s cleanliness and accessibility standards.

He further reiterated the civic body’s commitment to reclaiming public spaces from illegal occupation and ensuring that market areas remain organised.
