Dera Bassi: A 35-year-old Jawaharpur resident was killed in a mishap on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway on Monday. Amar Singh, riding pillion, sustained injuries as he and rider Kamaljit Singh fell from the motorcycle after hitting a stray cattle. Amar Singh was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. Acting on a statement of the deceased’s friend, the police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. TNS

Bags containing brass stolen

Chandigarh: As many as 67 bags containing brass weighing 4,020 kg and CCTV DVR were stolen from a shop in the Industrial Area, Phase II. On a complaint of Harvinder Singh Khanna, a case has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. TNS

UIET Workshop concludes

Chandigarh: An Indo-UK partnership development workshop on “Solar pump-based village micro grids – potential for tackling the energy/water/food nexus in Punjab” concluded at the UIET, Panjab University. The workshop deliberated on developing methods to promote the uptake of solar irrigation pumps under the constraints of relatively high capital costs and a current regime of free or highly subsidised electricity for grid connected pumps. Maid arrested on theft charge

Zirakpur: The police registered a case of theft against a maid who worked at Vasant Vihar colony. The Dhakoli police arrested her with the stolen money. Shivani Patni had stated that she had hired a domestic help, Poonam, who stole Rs40,000 from the house in the past few days. TNS
