379 drug peddlers held in Fatehgarh Sahib in 3 months
In three months of the war against drugs campaign, the district police have arrested 379 peddlers and recovered 224-gm heroin, 2.25-kg opium, 15-kg poppy husk, 2-kg ganja, besides Rs 3.40 lakh drug money and motor vehicles. The police have also made other recoveries.
All 434 village panchayats falling in the district had passed unanimous resolutions against supporting drug peddlers and standing security for them in court cases, said Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Subham Aggarwal today.
He said the crackdown on drugs had become possible as the police formed 434 village defence committees, 90 ward defence committees, organised 832 police-public meetings, 124 Sampark meetings and 18 sports competitions to involve the masses in the war against drugs.
He said 182 addicts were admitted to de-addiction centres and clinics through counselling. He said to get secret information from public regarding drug peddlers ‘Safe Punjab, Manas Aap’ had been launched. To send a clear message to drug peddlers, houses constructed with the drug money were demolished after getting proper verification done from respective councils, the SSP added.
