Two major mobilisations are scheduled for Wednesday — the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s gathering and a bandh call by Panjab University students
In view of two major mobilisations scheduled for Wednesday — the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s (SKM) gathering and a bandh call by Panjab University students seeking notification of the Senate election — the UT police will deploy around 3,000 personnel and impose traffic restrictions on key routes.
More than 10,000 farmers from Punjab are expected to converge on the Sector-43 Dassehra Ground as part of the SKM’s nationwide protest marking the fifth anniversary of the 2020 “Delhi Chalo” march. Over 1,000 policemen will be deployed in and around Sector 43.
The authorities were bracing for heavy vehicular movement from Mohali and a large gathering near the protest venue. Senior officers instructed field teams to begin deployment from early morning.
Traffic curbs
Jan Marg: Movement will be restricted from Kajheri Chowk (Sector 42/43–52/53) to the Sector 42/43 Small Chowk, extending further to Attawa Chowk (Sector 35/36/42/43).
Sector 43: Traffic will remain curtailed between the Sector 43/44 junction and the Judicial Academy light point, up to the Sector 42/43 small chowk.
