Chandigarh, February 29
A local court has sentenced four persons to undergo life imprisonment in a murder case of Mauli Jagran.
The convicts were Roop Basant, alias Bhola, Ampik, alias Gulli, Dhanish and Arjun Thakur.
The police had registered the case on a complaint of the victim’s brother Abhishek. The complainant had stated that four persons had attacked his brother Kuldeepak on October 25, 2022, in a park at Mauli Jagran. When he and his friend Shahbaz intervened, they too were also assaulted. The accused stabbed Kuldeepak in the chest with a knife, while he was hit by a brick and Shahbaz stabbed in the back, the complainant had stated.
After investigation, the police arrested the accused and presented a challan against them before the court. Finding prima facie case, charges were framed against the accused to which they pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
During the arguments on the quantum of sentence, Hukam Singh, the public prosecutor, argued for exemplary punishment to the convicts. The defence counsel argued for the leniency due to the young age of the convicts.
After hearing the arguments, the court sentenced all the convicts to undergo life imprisonment.
