4 students injured as school van overturns near Dera Bassi

Four students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dappar, were seriously injured when the school van they were travelling in overturned near Dera Bassi on Wednesday afternoon.

The injured students were referred to GMCH-32, Chandigarh, while three others, who had sustained minor injuries, were admitted to Dera Bassi Sub-Divisional Hospital, officials said.

The van carrying around 20 students was going to Chadiala village from the school around 2:30 pm when the accident occurred, the officials said. The driver of the van lost control of the vehicle while trying to save an oncoming vehicle and it went off the road and overturned, leaving the students in a shock, they said.

Passersby immediately rushed to help and pulled out the injured from the overturned van.

Dera Bassi SHO Sumit Mor said, "The statement of the driver and the students will be recorded after being discharged from hospital. The private van was hired by parents to pick and drop children."
