42 families come under scanner after Rohingya verification drive in Panchkula
As many as 42 families were found possessing suspicious documents during an ongoing verification drive being carried out to identify illegal residents, Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals in particular, in the city.
The campaign was launched on the direction of Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Arya to strengthen the city’s security.
As part of the campaign, different police teams have been deployed for the inspections.
The city has been divided into three zones—Zone 1 includes the Chandimandir and Raipur Rani police station areas, Zone 2 covers the Kalka and Pinjore police station areas, and Zone 3 comprises Sector 5, 7, 14, 20, and MDC police station areas. Each zone is assigned to the respective station in-charge, who is responsible for monitoring the campaign. So far, a total of 1,291 people have been verified.
During the verification process, the police have examined essential documents such as Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, ration cards, and family identification certificates. Additionally, an in-depth investigation of family backgrounds is being conducted to determine whether the individuals in question are residing legally in Panchkula.
The police teams are also verifying vehicle documents and gathering information from the individuals’ current workplaces to keep a close watch on their activities.
Documents of 42 families have been found to be suspicious. Based on the verification process, the police have expressed doubts about their authenticity, and these families will now undergo re-verification.
The re-verification will help determine whether they are indeed illegal immigrants. Correspondence with the relevant departments is underway to obtain legally accurate information. However, until the investigation is complete, it cannot be conclusively stated that these families are illegal immigrants.
The verification process is nearly complete in the Chandimandir, Pinjore, Kalka, Sector 5, and Sector 14 areas, while it is progressing rapidly in other regions. The Commissioner of Police is personally overseeing the campaign, seeking daily reports from officials to enhance the effectiveness of the verification process. Additionally, he has urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.
