5 city residents convicted of murder

A local court has held five persons guilty in a four-year-old murder case. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced tomorrow.

The convicts, Bharat, Gurdev, alias Guru, Anil Kumar, alias Lalla, Pardeep Kumar and Rahul, all residents of Mauli Complex, Chandigarh, were booked on a complaint of the victim’s father on April 16, 2021.

The complainant had stated that his son Amit Kumar worked at a fast food joint in Mauli Jagran Colony. His son had borrowed a scooter from Bharat and met with an accident. Bharat got angry over the scooter getting damaged and a quarrel ensued. Amit gave Bharat Rs 1,500 to get the vehicle repaired, but to no avail.

On April 16, 2021, Bharat, along with his friends, came to his house and asked about Amit, the complainant stated, adding that he saw Bharat carrying a knife. After sometime, a person from the colony told him that Amit was stabbed by Bharat at Mauli Complex. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where he was declared brought dead.

A case under Sections 147, 148, 149, 302 and 120B of the IPC was registered at the Mauli Jagran police station. During investigation, the five suspects were arrested and the weapon used in the crime was recovered. The police presented a challan in the court. Finding prima facie case, charges under Section 302 of the IPC were framed against the accused, to which they pleaded not guilty.

After hearing the arguments of both the counsel for the accused and the public prosecutor, the court held the accused guilty of the charges framed against them.
