A 58-year-old man died while trying to save his 35-year-old son, who was attacked by some persons following an argument, at their house in Ram Darbar, Phase I, on Friday night.

The victim has been identified as Attar Singh, who worked as a safai karamchari with the Health Department.

Was trying to save son from attackers

  • The victim, Attar Singh, was a safai karamchari with the Health Department.
  • His son had an argument with three youths in the afternoon.
  • At night, they came to his house and attacked him.
  • As the victim tried to intervene and pacify them, the suspects stabbed him before escaping from the spot.

Sources said the victim’s son Anil (35), was returning home this afternoon when he had an argument with three youths over giving way to him. As people intervened, the suspects left the spot.

Police sources said the suspects later reached the victim’s house and attacked Anil.

Anil’s father Attar Singh was sitting outside the house. As he tried to intervene and pacify them, the suspects stabbed him before escaping from the spot.

The police reached the spot on getting information about the incident.

Meanwhile, the father-son duo was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 where doctors declared Attar Singh as brought dead.

A case of murder has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. The police have initiated an investigation into it.

The suspects were yet to be arrested at the time of the filing of the report.

Sources said the suspects were the victim’s neighbour.

The victim is survived by his wife and three sons.
