The Mining Department has impounded six vehicles involved in illegal mining in the district and recovered ?4,28,000 fine from one of the owners. Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta said one case related to illegal mining and seven of illegal transportation had been registered this month.

In February, the authorities impounded 24 vehicles and recovered ?21,42,000 in fine from the owners of five of these. One illegal mining case and 10 of illegal transportation were registered.

In March, six vehicles were seized ?4,28,000 fine collected from one of the owners. Teams of the Mining Department, Enforcement Bureau and others are conducting night patrolling of mining-prone areas in the district.

Officials emphasised that measures such as increased night patrolling highlighted the administration’s determination to eliminate illegal mining.
