A total of 606 traffic slips were issued for various offences, including 38 for drunken driving, and 20 vehicles were impounded by the police during the New Year celebrations in Mohali. Around 1,000 police personnel, led by Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek, manned more than 50 special pickets to maintain law and order in the city.
The cops said a massive drive was carried out till 3am on January 1 to check any untoward incident in the city. A liquor vend employee at Phase 3B2 was booked for keeping a slit in the shutter open beyond prescribed time limit. An eatery manager in Phase 3B2 was booked under Section 223 of the BNS at the Mataur police station for flouting District Magistrate’s order.
A total of 336 challans were issued by Mohali traffic police from December 30 to January 1. The challaning drive against offenders will continue in future, said Mohali SP (Traffic) HS Mann.
