Chandigarh, September 2
Around 66,000 commuters were fined by the Ambala Division of the Northern Railways for travelling ticketless and without proper documentation. An amount of Rs3.56 crore was recovered as fine from commuters in August.
Gurinder Mohan Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala Division, said with the decline in Covid cases, trains were running with good occupancy. Thus, the division has paced up checking to render convenience to the authorised travelers.
To ensure Covid norms, 248 persons without a mask were also fined, stated a press release.
Railway officials said a special emphasis had been laid on curbing the menace of littering among the general public for making the railway stations clean. “For this purpose, regular checks are conducted over the main stations of the division as a result of which, 342 passengers were apprehended under the Anti-Littering Act and Rs67,350 were recovered from them,” the press note added. — TNS
