Seven-year-old local golfer Nihaal Cheema brought laurels to the country by winning the World Junior Golf Championship organised by the British Junior Golf Tour at Marbella (Spain). Cheema bagged the title in the boys’ U-7 category. With rounds of -3, -5 and -2 in 9 holes over three days, he carded an amazing 10-under par to win the championship. He defeated his nearest rival, Italy’s P Salvati, by nine strokes.

Cheema kick-started 2025 with the winner’s trophy, improving his last year second position finish in the same championship. He shot rounds of 55, 63 and 53 in the three-day event. His final round of 53 was the best score by any player in his category. Louie Gou from England stood first and Gonzalo Bernal Suarez from Spain third.

Earlier, he won the US Kids Golf European Championship in Scotland. He claimed the feat in the boys’ U-7 category with a three-day score of 35-35-37.He also won accolades while representing the county in two different international tournaments.
