Chandigarh, March 5

The Panjab University has announced introduction of a shuttle bus service to drop students receiving degrees and their parents to ISBT Sector 17, Sector 43 and Railway Station after the conclusion of 71st annual convocation on March 7.

For the first time ever, the university is hosting the convocation in the evening hours, starting from 5pm. Vice President and university chancellor Jagdeep Dhankar will attend the convocation.

“There will be a help desk around venue to provide assistance and to facilitate local transportation for the parents and the students coming for the convocation. Shuttle bus service will be operational to drop students and their parents to ISBT Sector 17, Sector 43 and Railway Station,” stated a circular.

“Arrangements will be also made for students’ accommodation in the university hostels on advance requests to the Dean Student Welfare (DSW). The request will be made at dsw@pu.ac.in by March 6 (4pm),” it added.

Meanwhile, Prof Unnat P Pandit (Doctor of Laws) and Prof Balram Bhargava (Doctor of Science) along with Dr JK Bajaj (Gyan Ratna), Bahadur Singh Chauhan (Khel Ratna) and Ninder Ghugianvi (Sahitya Ratna) have confirmed their presence on March 7 for receiving the Honoris Causa degrees.

“It is further informed that Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella, whose names were approved by the PU Senate in the previous Panjab University Annual Convocation for Doctor of Science, have also consented to be present in the upcoming convocation.”

In addition to the above mentioned names, a university’s committee has recommended names of Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan (Doctor of Science) for Honoris Causa segree and Sachin Bansal for Udyog Ratna.
