The UT police today ensured that migrants don’t leave the city and those who have no place to live are shifted to a shelter home in Maloya.
A total of 72 migrants, who were leaving for their native places, were stopped. They were either shifted back to their places or sent to the shelter home.
According to an order issued by UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale on March 29, SHOs and beat staff have been asked to patrol their areas and search for the migrants.
Police staff on duty at the entry points was also directed that no migrant should enter from other state and nobody should be allowed to leave.
All inbound and outbound vehicles were thoroughly checked at border nakas.
The police said those living in colony areas were counselled and advised to stay home. They were given assurance that all essential services would be provided to them.
“A total of 72 migrants, including 68 men, two women and two children, who were about to leave Chandigarh to their native places, were further shifted back to their place of stay and the shelter home in Maloya,” said a police official.
The police said while 24 migrants were restored back to their places, 48 were sent to the shelter home in Maloya.
The police said 22 labourers who were living in Khuda Lahora and Khuda Jassu were found at the naka point around 1:30 am. They were assured of shelter and food by Inspector Jaspal Singh, SHO of the Sector 3 police station.
Meanwhile, 17 labourers, who were working as painters at Chakka and Dharam villages near Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, and were trying to go to their native village in Uttar Pradesh, were found in Sector 20, Chandigarh. They were sent to the shelter home.
Four persons were found at Badheri barrier, Chandigarh. They were coming from the Punjab side and belonged to UP. They were also taken to the shelter home in Maloya.
