8 cattle electrocuted at Chandigarh gaushala, probe ordered

Eight cattle, including a cow and seven oxen, died this morning at Maloya Gaushala after coming in contact with an iron pole that had become electrically charged.

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, along with Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta and area councillor Nirmala Devi, visited the site and took stock of the situation.

Expressing concern over the incident, the Mayor stated that strict action would be taken against officials found responsible. She added that steps would be taken to improve the management of Gaushalas, including their possible handover to NGOs for better care and safety of cattle.

Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Amit Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the matter and directed officials to ensure accountability.

Meanwhile, 25 cows were safely rescued due to the prompt response of MC staff. Senior officials, along with the Commissioner, were present at the site to assess the situation and implement corrective measures.
