The Surajpur traffic police issued challans to eight drivers found illegally selling goods from three-wheelers parked in no-parking areas along the Shimla-Kalka highway.
The police found that not only were these vehicles illegally parked, but in many cases the drivers also lacked the necessary documents. Several other provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act were also being violated.
ACP (Traffic) Shukarpal Singh said the Shimla-Kalka Highway saw heavy tourist traffic, and roadside vending by three-wheeler drivers not only disrupted traffic flow but also increased the risk of accidents. Despite repeated warnings and placement of ‘No Parking’ signs, these drivers continued to flout the rules.
The crackdown, conducted under the direction of the ACP (Traffic), was led by Surajpur traffic incharge Sub-Inspector Narendra Kumar.
