The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has issued eviction notices to 89 more allottees of small flats who have failed to deposit the prescribed licence fee.

Earlier, such notices were issued to 73 allottees and they had been given one-month time to vacate their flats.

According to the notice, the occupants have unauthorisedly occupied the dwelling units, as the allotment of the units was cancelled over non-payment of licence fee and the dues had risen to Rs 1 lakh or more in each case. The CHB ordered them to vacate the premises within one month from the date of service of notice, failing which they will be evicted forcibly.

The CHB has been issuing such notices since May 19 over the non-payment of fee despite repeated reminders. So far, notices have been issued to 60 allottees in Sector 38-West, 16 in Sector 56, 26 in Sector 49, 27 in Ram Darbar, 24 in Dhanas, three in Maulijagran and two each in Maloya, Industrial Area, Phase I, and Dadumajra.

The CHB had constructed around 20,000 flats across the city under the Small Flats Scheme-2006. These flats were allotted to poor families who lived in slum colonies. Under the allotment terms, the allottees have to deposit the monthly rent of Rs 800 with the board. Most allottees have failed to pay rent for the past several years.
