8th annual summer hockey camp inaugurated at Bassi Pathana
A five-day summer hockey camp was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind and Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi, IG (Crime), Punjab, at Bassi Pathana today. The camp is being organised by Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT), a Bassi Pathana-based NGO
At this under-14 camp, 116 hockey trainee boys and girls are participating. They are being coached by international coaches.
Bassi Pathana town is also known as nursery of hockey due to the efforts of the MBCT. The sleepy town has given dozens of boys and girls to Indian Hockey teams.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Thind appreciated the commitment of budding players towards hockey. She called upon the youth to take inspiration from these budding boys and girls and adopt sports, which not only promotes discipline and sportsmanship, but also helps keep away from the menace of drug. She appreciated the efforts of the MBCT for preparing national-level hockey players.
Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi was overwhelmed and amazed by the high level hockey skills of the young players. He was all praise for the dedication and efforts of the MBCT hockey nursery coaches. He said the future of Indian hockey was bright as budding players had excellent skills.
MBCT Trustee Maj Gen (retd) Surat Singh Sandhu and Managing Trustee Hassan Singh Mejie gave detailed information about the social activities of their NGO.
