The residents of Sector 70 MIG (Independent) will get relief from the long-pending problem of rainwater accumulation and water entering their houses during monsoons. The Municipal Corporation (MC) has approved a budget of Rs 90 lakh for the construction of an underground water storage tank with a capacity of 1.5 lakh litre.

The construction work was formally inaugurated today by Jaswant Kaur, wife of Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, in the presence of area councillor Sukhdev Singh Patwari, and local residents.

“The residents of MIG (Independent) have been facing this rainwater problem for several years, but with this initiative, they will now get permanent relief. The state government is fully committed to finding sustainable solutions to urban infrastructure issues,” the MLA said.

Councillor Sukhdev Singh Patwari added, “The previous government had misled the people before elections by laying some pipes without any tender, just to gain votes. However, after the elections, those pipes were removed — it was merely an election stunt. Now, with the cooperation of the current government, the actual work has begun.”

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation (MC) officials and contractors present on the occasion assured that the work would be carried out efficiently and completed soon, ensuring that the project becomes beneficial for residents before the upcoming monsoon season.
