95% conviction rate under NDPS Act in Rupnagar district: Cheema
Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today claimed that the conviction rate under the NDPS Act in Rupnagar district had reached 95 per cent. He said this rate was 92 per cent last year in the district.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who is also Chairman, Cabinet Sub-Committee, held a special meeting with the civil and police administration officers at the District Administrative Complex here today.
"Drug addicts are being admitted to de-addiction centre. A temporary centre with 60 beds is also being set up at the Youth Hostel so that patients could receive treatment and get cured."

Before the meeting, Cheema inspected the cordons and search operation (CASO) operation run by the Police Department at Shampura village. He asked police officers monitor every person with a criminal background and take strict action.
He also met hockey coach Ranjit Singh, a resident of Shampura village, and villagers, who assured him of full support in the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, launched by the Punjab Government.
During the meeting Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said drug addicts were being admitted to de-addiction centre. He said a temporary centre with 60 beds was also being set up at the Youth Hostel so that patients could receive treatment and get cured.
Finance Minister directed officials of the Health Department to conduct a special inspection of all medical stores in the district to ensure that no banned and psychotropic medicine was sold. He asked them to take strict action against those illegally selling drugs.
MLA Dinesh Kumar Chadha and SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana were also present at the meeting.
