A recent survey by the Municipal Corporation (MC) has found 97 buildings in violation of the three-floor cap, as mandated in the building bylaws, in areas falling under its jurisdiction.

Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu in an emergency meeting with MC Commissioner T Benith, building branch and fire department officials said, “Notices will be issued to those building owners whose height is more than the prescribed limit and they will be asked to fix them. In case of failure to do so, the MC will take action itself and the entire cost of this will be recovered from the building owner. Those who violate the rules will not be spared.”

The Mayor has also instructed fire department officials to check the fire safety equipment at all the buildings built in the villages.
