AAP, Congress begin talks to resolve ‘rift’
In a bid to control damage, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders reportedly started discussions with Chandigarh unit Congress leaders here today.
Following a brief political stir caused by Congress councillors walking out of a tea party hosted by Mayor Kuldeep Kumar, talks between the AAP and Chandigarh Congress appeared to be back on track. Chandigarh AAP leaders reportedly met party’s city unit president HS Lucky on Saturday to discuss the mayoral elections and alliance strategy.
The meeting, which took place at Lucky’s residence, lasted for about an hour and focussed on strengthening the alliance and preparing for the upcoming election. According to sources, city AAP co-in-charge SS Ahluwalia reportedly went to Lucky’s house to placate him and discuss about future strategy for the mayoral elections. Meanwhile, the Mayor and other AAP councillors were also in touch with Lucky, said a party leader.
The differences appeared yesterday when Congress councillors abruptly left the Mayor’s tea party after being summoned by the party for a meeting. The incident sparked speculation about possible strain in the alliance between the two. However, Saturday’s meeting seems to have been an effort for damage control.
Lucky confirmed that the discussions were positive. “There has been a constructive dialogue with AAP leaders. Both parties are aligned on the need to strengthen our alliance and work together for the upcoming elections,” he said. —
