The unfinished Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-Congress seat-sharing deal has already led to deflection of AAP’s Panchkula district president to the BJP.

Panchkula AAP president Ranjit Uppal on Monday resigned from his post and joined the BJP. Uppal said he was upset that the party failed to announce candidates on any of the assembly seats and was instead seeking sharing of seats with the Congress. The development has taken place days after Uppal staked claim for candidature from Kalka seat.

While talking to The Tribune, Uppal said, “Earlier, the AAP had claimed it would field its candidates and contest all 90 seats in the 2024 assembly polls. Now they are seeking seat-sharing with the Congress, which has already announced over 40 candidates. In fact, both the parties have announced its candidates and started their campaigns, while AAP are on stand-by. Moreover, the party which has been condemning the Congress rule in the past, is now teaming-up with them. Therefore, I decided to join the BJP.”
