Earlier, Anju Chander had held the post of MC president in the SAD-BJP ruling combine till 2017. Anju Chander thanked municipal councillors and city residents for placing their faith in her. She assured residents that all pending civic works would be promptly taken up for completion.

A no confidence motion was called on May 16 in which 23 councillors of the 29-member House took part. Twenty members out of the total 23 voted out Kharar MC president Jaspreet Kaur Longia of the SAD.

Anmol Gagan Maan said, “Developmental works will begin from tomorrow onwards. Whichever work residents ask will begin immediately. Now, there is no one to stop us. Only a little more than one year is left for the completion of MC’s House tenure. All works will be done in full throttle.”

Anju Chander contested MC elections as Congress candidate in February 2021. She lost the last civic body elections, but secured victory in the bypolls held in December 2024 after the death of sitting councillor.
