Abetment to suicide: 2 held n Zirakpur
Zirakpur, September 11
The police have arrested two of the six suspects, including former sarpanch Jai Singh, in connection with the suicide case of Shyam Singh (52), a resident of Shatabgarh.
The suspects have been identified as Jai Singh and Ranjit Singh. The police today produced the duo before a court, which remanded them in three-day police custody.
Shyam Singh had committed suicide due to humiliation after he was forced to take off his turban and place it at the feet of a village panch.
In a suicide note, the victim had stated that he was ending his life after facing humiliation at the village panchayat.
On the statement of Virender Singh, son of the deceased, the police had booked sarpanch Usha Devi, her husband Baljit Singh, former sarpanch Jai Singh, Ranjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Jagpal Singh on September 5. — TNS
