Chandigarh, July 7
Maharashtra’s Abhiram Nilakhe stunned top seed Punjab’s Paramveer Singh in a marathon outing to clear the boys’ U-18 qualifying round during the ongoing CLTA-AITA National Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 complex. After a see-saw battle, Nilakhe went down 5-7 in the first set, but only to return with a 6-4, 10-7 verdict in his kitty.
In another upset, local challenger Ribhav Saroha defeated second seed Shorya Jishtu in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Ayushman Ghale defeated Prabhroop Singh Kalsi 6-1, 6-0, while Karnataka’s Tanussh Ghildyal ousted Gaurish Madaan 6-0, 6-2.
Arnav Chaudhary of Maharashtra defeated Ajay Nain 6-3, 6-0 and Vivaan Midha of Rajasthan outplayed Tanmay Singla 6-1, 6-0. Vishvajeet Sanas defeated Parmarth Kaushik 6-4, 6-4 and Viraaj Narang was leading 6-1, 1-0 against Saksham Shah, when the latter conceded the match.
In the girls’ U-18 qualifying matches, Punjab’s Pratishtha Saini defeated Japleen Kaur 6-0, 6-4 and Punjab’s Aafreen Rahil stunned Sanya Dwivedi without conceding a single game 6-0, 6-0.
