In a high scoring match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Punjab defeated Saurashtra by 57 runs as left-arm opener Abhishek Sharma posted a stunning 170, while Prabhsimran Singh contributed 125 in Ahmedabad. Skipper Sharma won the toss and opted to bat. Leading from the front, he helped the side achieved 424/5 in allotted 50 overs.
Sharma (170 off 96 balls, with 22 boundaries and eight sixes) turned out to be a nightmare for the Saurashtra bowlers. Prabhsimran was not behind as he contributed 125 off 95 balls, studded with 11 boundaries and eight sixes. The duo raised a 298-run opening wicket partnership for Punjab. Later, in the innings, Anmol Malhotra (48 off 45 balls, with six boundaries) and Sanvir Singh (40 off 29 balls, with four boundaries and one six) contributed a lion’s share to help Punjab post 424. In response, Saurashtra batters could manage only 367 runs.
UP beat Chandigarh
Meanwhile, Chandigarh boys faced yet another defeat in their ongoing campaign. The side on Tuesday faced a six-wicket defeat against Uttar Pradesh in Vijayanagaram. Batting first, Chandigarh batters scored 271. In reply, Aryan Juyal posted 116 off 125 balls.
